Beyond our collaborative class website, we are planning to interview industry professionals and the public on their views of socially responsible investment. We have contacted Dick Jones of Boston Community Capital in hopes of interviewing him and plan to pole the Wellesley community to determine what they know about SRI and if corporate responsibility is something they will take into consideration when making investments. We want to make our website an easy place for people to go to find out what SRI is and what it’s about .

This looks like a great idea! It would be very interesting to see what Dick Jones has to say about socially responsible investment. It should also be exciting to see how Wellesley students respond. I would think that since socially responsible investment is becoming more popular that more students might consider it in their future careers. Also by polling Wellesley students, it will make more people aware of the concept and even encourage and motivate more students to do so in the future.

That’s a great plan- I think your project will be helpful for individuals looking to work in socially responsible companies, and for those looking to invest. The more people know about these types of opportunities, the more they will be able to utilize them. Putting money in companies who are trying to be socially responsible is a great way to exercise our individual rights, and to show the marketplace what type of companies and practices we support.

I also really like your group’s project. Before I took this lass, I had no idea what socially responsible investing is. I think people need to know that a Solidarity Economy isn’t one where no one makes a good living or some sort of communist paradise, it’s one where you can make money while not doing something evil to the planet or other people. It’s really a win-win situation. I like that you will be educating the public about that.

The poll you’re planning on conducting sounds really fascinating. I hope you include a question about the age of the respondents (and that you get some older respondents!). I’d be interested to see whether awareness is correlated with age, after what the alum that came to visit us said (that younger business school people are much more interested in sustainable investing than they have been in the past).

I love the idea of socially responsible investment…I wish it were easier to participate in so I think your website contribution sounds great.

This project sounds great! It might be interesting to research how our college (and other surrounding colleges) make socially responsible investments. It may be worth contacting our investment office, as well as the student members that sit on the Proxy Voting sub-committee of Wellesley’s Board of Trustees. (I have their contact info if you would like them) Since socially responsible investing is a concern for them, it would be interesting to look at how and what criteria they use to make their decisions.

I’m very interested to see how Wellesley women respond to your questions. It would be great if socially responsible investment were a part of thigns we learned here at Wellelsey. I’ve heard stories of years past when Wellesley students protested when they found out the school was invested in South Africa during the apartheid – it would be so cool if we were still aware like that. But maybe the school’s investments are responsible. I would love that information!
